Everything about the farm and in it I have come to love. The chores clear my head, the cows raise my spirits, and the farm, even at 3:45 in the morning, has become my happy place. Finally being able to have hands on experience in my major has really helped me realize that I chose the right profession, and I cannot wait until the day where I can be in my field, providing the support and care for these beyond amazing creatures.
Milkings have also lead to this semester being one of the most stressful of my entire college career. Because of my busy schedule, I can only work mornings generally, causing me to have to wake up twice a week at 3:15 am. I more often than not have to work when I have a test the next day, or that very day. My sleep schedule is entirely screwed up, and I always move around shifts last minute to adjust to my everchanging, busy schedule.
Even though I cannot wait until next semester when I can sleep in every day, I have gained experience that I might never have the opportunity to gain again, exposing me to an environment that I never have been to, and that I have come to love. My cow is due for her calf this Sunday, and I already feel like the calf is my own. Thank you to the farm for teaching me something about myself that I never would have learned otherwise.
