I was heifer herds-person this week. Before the start of this semester I had never worked cows at all. I am loving learning all about the cows and how to take care of them. This week we welcomed the newest addition to the Witter farm family, Manny. Manny is the second calf born this semester, he was Marielle's first calf. Marielle is doing so good on her first lactation. The first calf was Roger, Reejay's first calf. Although its been a bit of long rode for Reejay to get used to milking, she is making great progress. We have two more cows due to calf this month; Raspberry and Nile, so stay posted to hear all about their calves or stop by the farm at the end of the month to see all the calves.

Hi everyone, if you’ve been keeping up with the farm recently, you’ll know that one of our heifers, Reejey, recently had her first baby, Roger! After having their first calf, we refer to the mother as a “fresh cow” and she starts getting milked for the first time. However, she isn’t able to milked into our tank right away since her milk is different than the rest. But this week, we’re all happy to report that Reejey officially is good to go and has been milked into our tank and is an official member of our milking family! Since it’s her first time in the barn being milked it can be scary sometimes, but she’s been doing a great job and is making progress each day. So if you stop by the farm, make sure to give her some love.
Hey there, my name is Denise and I was the Heifer Herdsman this week! Rather than reading what I have to say like you usually would, I’d like to take this opportunity to allow some of the youngest members of the Witter Farm family to introduce themselves to you!
Greetings! We're the biggest girls in the calf barn! We love living together and learning how to do new things! Our favorite time of day is when our human friends come to give us grain and fresh hay! We love to take group naps together and have cuddle puddles when we are feeling extra lazy. We can't wait to be in the dairy barn some day!!
Hi! My name is Dominique and I was Heifer Herdsperson this week. I have never worked with cows and was a little nervous to start working with them, however, now that I have worked with them they are some of the coolest animals I have worked with! A lot has already happened this week but I’d have to say my favorite thing about this past week was that I was assigned a pregnant cow and she gave birth! My cow was Reejay, and on 1-30-18 she gave birth to a baby boy named Roger! He is really big, weighing 125 lbs at birth vs the normal 80 lbs.
