What I find interesting about the Witter Farm is how accessible it is to the community. I’m not saying that other farms are so closed off to not allow people interested from visiting, just that this one is extra accommodating. The environment of Witter Farm seems friendlier, especially when we host things like Trick or Trot. Events like this encourage visiting the farm more to see it when it is functioning normally. Every time I’m at the barn I see people visiting more often than not with their kids. We could easily just turn people away on the guise that it “is stressful on the animals” or that it “makes work harder”, but instead we encourage people to come here and see the animals. And while I can’t speak for everyone, I am always willing to answer any question to the best of my ability to foster interest in the animals. Though it makes sense with this being a center for learning it still feels good to know that the environment created at the Witter farm is, in my opinion, so kind and open.
