The Witter Dairy

First cousins, UM Blade Ruger and UM Derren Radar.
Witter is currently milking about twenty five purebred, registered Holstein cows in a 35 cow tie stall barn. The cows are milked using a four unit vacuum pipeline system. The cows are milked twice a day, at 4:30 AM and 4:30 PM. During the summer and school breaks, the cows are milked by the Witter staff and student employees. During the school semesters, the students in the AVS 347 class, known as the University of Maine Applied Dairy Cooperative of Working Students, or UMADCOWS, take over milking responsibilities. The cattle are also used for a variety of other classes, university activities, and research projects. Witter raises a great deal of its cattle's feed and all of its own young stock. Witter milk is sold to Hood and is trucked to the plant by the Flying Cow, Inc. milk transport company.
